How to identify the German Cockroach

Light tan to brown, about half an inch, with two dark parallel stripes behind the head. Egg cases are small, tan, and purse-shaped.

Behavior & biology

It hides in warm, humid harborage near food and water — behind appliances, under sinks, in cabinet voids — and is active at night. One egg case holds dozens of young.

Why German Cockroachs are a problem

It spreads bacteria across food surfaces, triggers allergies and asthma, and multiplies rapidly, making a small problem an infestation within weeks.

Signs of an infestation

Pepper-like droppings in drawers and corners, discarded egg cases, a musty odor, and live roaches scattering when a light comes on.
