Very accurate — but the number depends heavily on the team. In controlled University of Florida research (Pfiester, Koehler & Pereira, Journal of Economic Entomology, 2008), trained detection dogs indicated correctly on live bed bugs 97.5% of the time with no false positives, and were roughly 98% accurate locating live bugs in controlled hotel-room trials. Later field research found much wider variation between teams working real infestations, which is exactly why certification and ongoing training matter. Can dogs really smell bed bug eggs?
